POLICE IN THE AREA
One of my concerns about having children was that we needed to be thinking about creating the best home security we possibly could. And that involves more than simply getting new locks and installing a home security system. Right now, my wife and I have a pretty nice apartment. Its spacious, gets a lot of sunlight, the rent isn’t bad, and it’s up on the fourth floor so no one really bothers us. But it’s not in the best neighborhood. I don’t mean to imply that we live in a virtual war zone and have to wander around the neighborhood in bulletproof vests. Things could be better though. There’s some rundown down buildings nearby, a few suspicious characters, and the police make frequent circuits through the neighborhood. There’s not a school anywhere close by and I rarely ever see any children. If I want to start raising a child with my wife (and I do know that she’d be a good mother), then I want to do it in a big house out in the suburbs where children play on our front lawn and there’s a decent school not far off. I don’t want to be woken up in the middle of the night by police sirens or just by people drunkenly shouting at each other. No, I’m sorry, especially for my wife, but us having children is just going to have to wait.
